"We have been researching & stocking up on the different types of pillows in order to help our customers choose the best one for their own sleeping position."

When it’s time to hit the sack understanding the different pillow types that are right for your preferred sleeping position can help make good night’s sleep into a great night’s sleep.

Last month we talked about how to choose the right mattress according to your sleeping position

This month we are taking that one step further & looking at pillows & how they are best chosen according to the position you sleep in also.

For example, if you are a side sleeper then you should look for a softer pillow with a higher loft (filling) to ensure your neck isn’t strained all night Meanwhile, stomach sleepers should look for medium to medium-firm pillows with a lower loft to ensure the neck is propped up at a comfortable angle. Back sleepers need to find that sweet spot where the support is firm without pushing their neck too far forward

Picking a pillow without knowing what type of sleeper you are can trigger numerous purchases of pillows in search of the right one along with a costly investment along the way!

As a bed showroom we believe pillows play a huge part in ‘Your Sleep Matters’!

So we have been researching & stocking up on the different types of pillows in order to help our customers choose the best one for their own sleeping position.

Down Pillows

These are made from the soft fibers close to the skin of a goose, duck, or swan. Since these pillows are sometimes blended with feathers, be sure to look at the down to feather ratio when purchasing a down pillow.

It’s also important to find an ethically sourced down pillow. Since down is taken from animals, it’s important to make sure down pillows are certified by the Responsible Down Standard which guides the ethical treatment of ducks and geese

Who this pillow is best for: Side, back, and stomach sleepers. Down pillow material is one of the best pillows for stomach sleepers due to its cushion and pillow softness.

However, with our conscious hat on & also to cater for our vegan customers we consider Down alternative pillows as a conscious synthetic alternative to the classic down pillow. Most down alternatives are filled with polyester, used to mimic the feeling of down. Polyester makes down alternative pillows hypoallergenic and also much more affordable. If you’re looking for a soft down feel & want to be more plant friendly, without wanting to use actual feathers then a down alternative pillow is a great option.

Who this pillow is best for: Back and side sleepers. Stomach sleepers can also use down alternative. However, the soft and fluffy nature of down alternative pillows makes it one of the best pillows for back and side sleepers too

Feather Pillows

These are made of a traditional filling used for providing support without losing its shape. Feather filling is an option if you’re looking for a comfortable supportive one. However, it’s important to note that many feather pillows are also filled with a small amount of down, so people allergic to down should be sure to look at the makeup of a feather pillow before purchasing.

Who this pillow is best for: Back and side sleepers. Feather pillows are similar to real down in that they are soft and fluffy. the higher loft makes it one of the best pillows for side sleepers and back sleepers

Latex Pillows

Latex is really gaining popularity in beds & also pillows because of the high level of support it provides for your body, head and neck, whilst maintaining a soft and cosy feel. Latex pillows are sold both in solid and shredded material. However, not all latex pillows are made the same. Some are commonly blended with polyurethane foam which can potentially be toxic. Be sure to check labels when buying these

Look for Talalay latex pillows. They instantly cradle your head and neck providing superior comfort, support and pressure relief

Who this pillow is best for: These pillows are very durable & will keep their shape. They can come as High Profile or Low Profile & are ideal for people who sleep on their side, back & front depending on which type

Memory Foam Pillow

These are extremely popular as they contour to your body, meaning they can be a good fit for all sleeping positions. They allow your head and neck to mold the memory foam pillow into a position that’s most comfortable for you.

Who this pillow is best for: Side, back, and stomach sleepers. However, memory foam pillows may be too firm for some side sleepers.

Gel Pillows

These are definitely becoming more popular due to their ability to keep people cool at night. Many are made of gel combined with another material such as foam or latex in order to give the cooling benefits of gel with the softness of another material. The gel material is firm and holds its shape well and can be molded to fit the contours of the sleeper, making them similar to memory foam.

Who this pillow is best for: Stomach and back sleepers. Side sleepers may find gel pillows to be too firm to find a comfortable sleeping position.

Understanding different pillow shapes and fillings can mean the difference between a restful night’s sleep and a frustrating ‘spent counting sheep’ night! Whether you are looking for hypoallergenic bedding or something designed to ease back pain, there are many different types of pillows that fit your sleeping positions just as much as your mattress does. That way, you’ll never feel the need to hunt for the perfect pillow again

New stock is arriving in the showroom so be sure to pop in & find the perfect pillow for you!
