Sizing Up a Bed for a Bedroom
This is a subtitle for your new post

Choosing the right bed size is crucial for creating a comfortable and functional bedroom. An oversized bed can overwhelm your space, whilst a bed that's too small can limit comfort, especially if a room is overcrowded with other items of furniture & ‘stuff’. Here are some essential guidelines to help you size a bed that will fit perfectly in your bedroom & command the rook as it should!
Measure Your Bedroom Dimensions
Firstly start by measuring the length & width of your bedroom & note the location of all the windows in the room, the doors, closets & other fixed features so as to understand the available floor space you have available is often ‘bed sale’ season
Determine Your Needs
Once you know the available floor space, it’s time to think about who will be using the bed & how often? If its for a spare room consider whether it's for a single sleeper, a couple, or for mainly occasional use as the guest room. What is the actual room function? For example, in a multi-functional space like a studio apartment, you might actually need to prioritise floor space over bed size
Whilst you may think you have space it may be that it just will not balance the room look. Use this guide to align bed sizes with your room dimensions
Single (3ft x 6ft 3”) These are ideal for smaller rooms, children’s rooms, or narrow spaces. If you are adding 2 singles factoring in the space between or around each bed & also the drawer configuration is necessary Do the drawers need to be on the left or right hand side for easy access? Or are they best on the foot-end as normal? You can actually specify which side you would like them when ordering so be sure to think this through before purchasing your bed
Small Double (4ft x 6ft 3") This size works well in medium-sized rooms or as an upgrade for single beds. Its a great option for teenagers upgrading from a single bed as its great for one sleeper or 2 smaller ones if it’s needed as a guest bed. If you do have lots of couples stating in your guest room the you might want to go for the standard double which is actually only 6 inches wider
Double (4ft 6" x 6ft 3") This size is known as a standard double & is perfect for both guest & master bedrooms with at least 10' x 10' of space. Its most peoples go to for a guest room & often for the main bedroom too
King (5ft x 6ft 6")
This size is becoming more popular now & does require a spacious room, typically 12' x 12' or larger. It is longer than a standard double by 3 inches so if fitting into a spare room this needs to be taken into account
Super King (6ft x 6ft 6")
Whilst this super sized bed is a foot wider than the King Size, it is still the same length. Suiting larger bedrooms, this size is great for taller individuals & those that like plenty of space whilst they sleep. Its the penultimate in beds & does command a large spacious room in order to fit in. It also comes with a couple of extra considerations. The base is split in 2 halves with the split configured as North to South instead of East to West like the smaller sizes. Getting this bed easily into some bedrooms can therefore be an issue. Things to ask yourself before you head off to buy one are: Will it go through the doorways it needs to & also up the stairs easily? Often these size beds are partnered with a full height (4ft 6” tall) headboard which is inflexible so will not bend around corners or go up low height staircases either! If the height of the stair well is low then both the base & headboard are going to be an issue putting in situ! Whilst we can advise in the Newport Beds showroom when purchasing, you know the size & style of your house & room where it will go, so we do rely on you knowing this when you make your purchase with us. Unfortunately once we have ordered it, there is little we can do to cancel the order if you find it doesn’t fit!
